Rectenna Converts Wifi and TV Broadcast Signals To Electricity

It seems that harvesting alternative energy from the air is going to become popular. After Airnergy, a Wi-Fi signals energy harvester that was introduced at CES 2010 but then look no further, now a Japanese company make a breakthrough by commercializing these technologies.

The product, which is labeled Rectenna –meaning Rectifying and Antenna–, capable of capturing the energy contained in the Wi-Fi signals. It doesn’t stop there, Rectenna also capture the TV broadcast signals which then it’s converted into 0.06?W/1.2mV of electricity. So at the same time, this device can capture both signals Wi-Fi and TV and double the power producion.

Technology always develop. So does with this kind of technology. It will continue to extend until we can see the next Rectenna can harvest more than two electromagnetic waves in the air, including FM radio, GSM and so on.
